Product Data Sheet
FSC-88 Filling and Smoothing Compound
DESCRIPTION:
FSC-88 is a solvent based, sprayable, brushable, or rollable primer/filler
that is used to fill and smooth Precision Board prior to finishing with paints and coatings. Use FSC-88 when an ultra smooth surface is required,
or as a primer prior to paint application. It dries rapidly and is easily sanded.
Prior to using FSC-88, use FSC-360 WB Crack & Repair material to fill large holes, cuts, or any other unwanted dents or damage. |
|
APPLICATION:
Brush or Roller - Apply liberal coat to surface of Precision Board
and thoroughly work into surface. Brush or roll out evenly and allow to
dry, usually about 15 minutes. Recoat as soon as surface changes from
gloss to flat matte. Apply second coast heavier than first coat. Apply
third coat at same rate if desired surface has not been obtained. Please
see Finishing
Methods application instruction sheet. When applying by roller, reduce
about 3% with mineral spirits to reduce roller drag and to slow drying
time.
Spray - Apply initial coat to all surfaces requiring smooth finish.
First coat should be a little lighter than subsequent coats. Do not allow
to run. Allow to dry, usually 7-10 minutes. Apply second coat a little
heavier than the first coat. Allow to dry. If surface has not reached the
smoothness required, continue with additional coats until desired finish
is obtained. Recoat as soon as surface changes from gloss to flat matte.
Prior to spraying, strain FSC-88 through 100 mesh strainer. Reduce 10%-15%
using FSC-88 Reducer. If material tends to spatter during spraying, it
should be thinned an additional 5%. Do not thin or reduce FSC-88 with any
solvent other than FSC-88 Reducer, as it will severely slow drying time.
Spray using standard pot, air atomized spray gun with a .015-.018 or
larger spray tip. The larger the tip the less thinning required.
Sanding smooth can take place as soon as FSC-88 does not ball up on the
sandpaper. Please refer to FSC-88
Finishing Methods instruction sheet. Do not sand between coats.
Remember that FSC-88 is a filling and smoothing material and must be
coated with a suitable paint for exterior applications. After completely
dry, it is compatible with all types of paints and finishes, including
lacquers, automotive paints and gold leafing.
Clean up using standard mineral spirits. Due to the unusual polymers used
in FSC-88, be sure to completely flush all lines and fittings, especially
in the spray gun.
NOTE: It is always a good idea to prime and paint both sides
of the sign to keep it from being warped by the drying paint. If you have
questions regarding the use of FSC-88, please contact Coastal Enterprises
Company at (800) 845-0745.
